He suggested that the Council meet with the senior high school principals and present a plan. Keith Parks was assigned to draw up a proposal to the principals Dr. Hanes invited the Council to attend on the first regular principals meetings early in August. Suggestions were made for the newspaper article,SfF.ated S for Students'7 for Friday, January 10, 1970. The Council accepted the idea of Susan Jetton to take the article from tonights meeting—"What the Council Is Doing This Summerr. The Council also suggested that a write in statement be attached at the bottom of the column, stating what the students in the Charlotte area think the CSCC could do. The address for the write in: C S C C, P. 0. Box 149, Charlotte, N. C. 28201. Ideas for next year's school newspaper committee were discussed. Should each school newspaper have a column devoted only to CSCC news? The Council decided that this would be an excellent way to promote the Council within each school. Also, discussed was the idea of printing activities going on in other high school in each newspaper. The Council felt that if there was enough space it would be a good way to keep in touch and only outstanding and interesting facts should be reported. Trena asked for opinions concerning the duties of the committee chairmen. It was decided that the it was necessary to present copies of the individual committee meetings minutes to be included in the CSCC notebook. Each committee chairman would be responsible for duplicating enough copies for his committee. Randolph Hemphill and Jim Griffith were appointed to co-chairman the upcoming 'Pop Festival'1 to be held on Sunday, September 13, 1970. Each member was asked to give names of available bands and help advertise the Festival. This lead into the discussion of a senior dance to be held in the spring, which brought many favorable and unfavorable comments. It was finaaly decided that it would cost an extreme amount of money to bring in a good band that would appeal. Projects could be undertaken, but was this the primary interest of the Council? Randolph made a motion that the dance be dropped and concentrate on the Pop Festival. The Council discussed just what it their purpose and in what v/ays good be of the best use to the Charlotte students and community. Steve Shoaf suggested the Council sponsor a clean-up Chariotteprogram. Keith Parks added that this was not the primary purpose of the Council, but it should be the spark to get service clubs within each high school interested and involved. This was agreed by all. Steve Shoaf was appointed chairman of the Big WAYS radio program, which the Council agreed could be a great project with the help of students and support of Big WAYS. The Council had a brief discussion of Orientation programs for the beginning of school. Harding reported that they had formed a committee that was already meeting. Ideas for voting and the selection of officers were mentioned.
