Harrison Shannon, Jr. Executive Director Administrative Offices: 1301 South Boulevard Post Office Box 36795 Charlotte, North Carolina 28236 Telephone (704) 332-0051 Fax (704) 358-9027 May 16, 1992 Mr. William Bonham 1000 Baxter Street, Apt. 1111 Charlotte, North Carolina 28202 Dear Mr. Bonham: We have reviewed your request to have the Lease Violation Citation nullified. Your past and current employment as a security guard is commendable and you are to be commended. Your right to carry a weapon while on your job is not in question. Your right to carry your weapon from your car directly to vour apartment is not in question. What is in question, is your right to carry or display your weapon while you are not in route to and from your job with Smith and Helms Law Firm. Paragraph 16G of your lease states that you "shall not without legal justification or recklessly or negligently: carry on or about their person a deadly weapon; . . . display a deadly weapon in connection with a verbal or non-verbal threat of bodily harm . . . ." Your insistence that you have the right to wear your weapon in the common areas and throughout the building when you are not in route to or from work and your display of the weapon during arguments with other residents constitutes a violation of this clause of your lease. Other residents have repeated complained about this behavior and the Authority was within its right to issue you a Lease Violation Citation for displaying a weapon while on Authority property. Please be advised that the Authority will not void or nullify the Citation. You are not to carry a weapon while on Authority property, except to take that weapon directly from your car to your apartment. Any display of that weapon other than while in route to or from your employment will constitute a further violation of your lease and your conference agreement. Respectfully, John G. Hayes, Ph. D. Assistant to the Executive Director
