November 23, 1992, I met with Doug Boyd, Executive Director of the Bethlehem Center. The Bethlehem Center is a multi-service center located in the South Tryon and Remount Road area of Charlotte. Mr. Boyd and his staff work in a number of the FB clustered neighborhoods and is eager to join the Fighting Back effort of coordinating resources with the Neighborhoods the Bethlehem Center Services. Additional meetings are planned between Mr. Boyd and the Neighborhood Associations represented by the Fighting Back Neighborhood Committee. 3. Three (3) Month Objectives and strategies December 1 through February 28, 1992 The objectives and strategies associated with the strengthening of the neighborhoods targeted under the program are detailed in the FB Project grant application. There are key areas that the FB Project should be involved with over the next three months. 1. Administration Hire new FB Administrative Assistant. The FB Project has advertised for the position of Administrative Assistant. The position will be advertised in the Charlotte Post and in the County's regular advertisements. We hope to fill this position with a highly-qualified person A.S.A.P. FB Offices. It appears to be a "breakdown" that needs immediate discussion and resolution. The Fighting Back Project needs to move to the Statesville Road location immediately. The Project Director needs the support of the City, County and Executive Committee. We need to move in order to keep the momentum going in the targeted neighborhoods. The clustered neighborhoods need to see some definitive "action" taking place on their behalf. Issues of TRUST are beginning to emerge due to the bureaucratic "RED TAPE." I will work closely with Area Mental Health Authority and County Engineering Office to insure donated FB Offices are up and running ASAP. I will communicate significant barriers with Peter Safir, the Executive Committee and clustered Neighborhood Association leadership. 11
