IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA Charlotte Division Civil So. 1974 JAMES E. SWANN, et al.f Plaintiffs, -vs - CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG BOARD OF EDUCATION, et al., Defendants. The defendants CO March 1, 1974, filed various documents described in o covering letter as a plea for assignment of pupils for 1974-5* Without in any manner reflecting on the rmouat of labor which wee pet into this project by the school staff and others, Z find myself unable to understand with any certainty frost these documents what the proposed assignments era, nor what action the court should take. Rather than take action or have a hearing on incomplete data it ssems to me that the plan ought to be fully and clearly explained in writing and some additional Information ought to be developed. it is THEREFORE ORDERED: 1. That on or before the 8th of March, 1974, the defendants supply the court with: (a) Three maps, one for the elementary schools, one for the junior high schools and one for the senior high schools, each clearly drawn and in whatever colors, markings and legends are necessary to enable court and counsel to discern the attendance axeae, satellites, pairings, projected attendance, numbers and races of students and the place or places from which those students will come, and other assignment arrangements contemplated under the new plan. (b) Three mape, one for elementary schools, one for junior high schools and one for the senior high schools.
