Postcard with a view of Presbyterian College for Women located in Charlotte , NC at North College and Ninth Streets . [Published by S . H . Kress & Co . - 12084 ; Curt Teich ; color ; divided back ; very good] From 1857 to 1891 , the building shown was occupied by the Charlotte Female Institute . In 1891 , the school closed and was replaced by the Charlotte Seminary for Girls and relocated to 510 North Tryon Street . In 1896 , the Seminary changed names to the Presbyterian College for Women and moved back to the campus shown on the card . In 1912 , the name changed again and it became Queens College , moving to Selwyn Avenue in Myers Park in 1912 . The building at College and Ninth became College Apartments and operated as such for many years . The Neoclassical building had three-story sections and a dome centered over a Corinthian portico . It had a large entry rotunda , a formal parlor , dormitories , dining room that seated 250 people , a gym and 1000-seat auditorium . The Apartments allowed the auditorium to be used by the Little Theater up into the 1930s . The building was demolished in 1948 .
