Description	Popular view of the Hotel William R. Barringer in Charlotte, NC. [D-10 - Pub. by McNeil Paper Co., Charlotte, NC - 27228; Dexter Press; color; linen; near Mint] The hotel name had many versions: The Barringer Inn, the Barringer Hotel, the Barringer Motor Inn but the official name of the twelve story establishment when it opened in 1940 was the Wm. R. Barringer Hotel. It was located at 426 North Tryon Street and expanded over the years from 200 to 350 rooms. It was 100% air conditioned and boasted of oriental rugs, uniformed bellmen, and other luxury amenities. The hotel restaurant was decorated in French period furnishings and was proud of its Swiss chef and sumptuous cuisine. Celebrities of all calibers, from Judy Garland to Richard Nixon stayed at the Barringer while in Charlotte. Later in its history, the Barringer became the Cavalier Inn. When it closed in 1975, it became Hall House, a residence for the elderly.
