Description	Panoramic view of Horner Military School campus in Charlotte, NC [Pub. by S. H. Kress & Co. - 7737; color; white border; fine] The school began in Oxford, N.C. in 1851, temporarily closing during the Civil War. The operations moved to Charlotte, N.C. around 1914, after a fire destroyed the barracks. The new Myers Park location was ideal due to the streetcar line that served the neighborhood and school. The Military Academy did not survive the First world War. it closed about 1918. The school was self-described as a classical, mathematical, scientific and English school, with military organization and discipline. The school administrator, Col. Jerome (J.C.) Horner, lived on the grounds (house seen at left of picture). In the center of the recto is the administration building, with the student barracks in the building to the far right.
